I am in the process of training a qiu mei. this is what I do. I'd like others with more experience to comment on my "training routine" so I can get her on the right track. first, we stretch. I should ask her to do some warmups, like running around a bit, do the skipping move forward and backwards, etc. but we are not doing that now. I will have her do that next time. then, we do drives. she can't switch from her forehand and backhand too good yet. so, I mostly try to hit to her forehand a bunch of times, then to her backhand, but not switching too much. after about 10 minutes, we do clears. I try to not hit it too far back. I want her to get the feel of hitting a good clear first. I ask her to move her feet to position herself correctly and do a proper setup before hitting the shuttle. we do clears for about 5 minutes. then, I let her stand in front of the net, and clear to my back court and I drop to her. I drop to both her forehand and backhand. I ask her to use her backhand more often, and use her arm. I emphasize on hitting the shuttle early, and as high as she can. we do this for about 5 minutes. then I let her do drops, and I clear to her. this part, she's having a lot of trouble, because I don't really know how to explaine to her to do a drop properly. I ask her to hit the shuttle with a smooth motion, because she has a tendency to not follow through with the shot. I ask her to not worry about the angle of the shot right now, but simply make sure that the shuttle gets over the net. and she can adjust her angle later, when she has a better idea of how the shuttle flies during a drop shot. we do 5-10 minutes of this. then, we do the clear-drop-drop routine. I ask her to move her feet, and pay attention to her foot work. we do this until she gets tired, which is about 10 minutes into the routine. and we rest. one thing that is hard for me is that the qiu mei is left handed, and I can only show her the move right handed, and it is upto her to made the flip and understand the move. oh well.
